Protesters took to the streets in at least eight provinces on Thursday, as the Taliban called on people to take up arms against foreign and Afghan troops.
OK, I think that the soldiers who did this were wrong. They should have known how insensitive and potentially volatile these actions were.
That said, I STILL don’t understand why people get so upset they are willing to commit murders in retaliation. This was a book that was burned. The Koran was written in that book, but that book was not the Koran. Even if they had burned every copy of the Koran, it would still exist in the teachings of Islam. Make the distinction, and life gets better for everyone
It’s much more than burning a religious text. It makes Americans seem like an invading force. A lot of people in Afghanistan don’t have access to information and low literacy that when they see images of a burning Koran and troops throughout their land they feel invaded. Although just a book, it makes the US look ignorant and disrespectful of other cultures and religions.
